Hey there!

Since videos work here now - I'm Bradley Gareth, I'm a voice actor with some bass in my voice, I've done a lot of work voicing in animation and videogames, check out some samples here in this reel!

I'm available for hire, so feel free to reach out to my contact info in my bio!

Best guess is that someone suggested that contextually “Lanamon” was closer to how you would pronounce it in the west, loses some of the OG meaning but it’s an example that matches up with prior emphasis for the games to match direct translation vs intent
animebrother.bsky.social
I also get that, but as a final thought, here’s a much older example of games vs anime localization

In the games? This guy is Kurisarimon (direct Romaji)

In the anime? This guy is Chrysalimon (translated meaning)

The people involved always care and do their best, it’s just different approaches

Ultimately because Digimon is a property that has passed hands for localization so many times (Fox to Disney to Nickelodeon to ???), anyone who picks up the license is going to have to deal with a lot of inter-company trouble where files can get lost and new people handle localization each time

How this guy got related to Slush, who can say
animebrother.bsky.social
There’s an anecdote by a voice actor I will not name who mentioned that when he did a Digimon dub, they had localized “SlashAngemon” as “SlushAngemon” (Slash because he has big razors for arms)

He explained that because it was in the spreadsheet they got from who knows where, they kept it Slush

(also marveling at the almost cartoonish Britishness of the phrase "at loggerheads")

I had seen Beelstarmon before, but only now checking the wiki do I see she can be summarized as "Beelzemon's more social sister"

It's a ton of fun (we are just up to Season 4 now, I think), and owning the vinyl soundtrack is extremely cool and based

Man I just turned 30, dodge rolling is gonna suck so hard
animebrother.bsky.social
It was either that or he wanted my brother and I to get on a plane and go on some kind of purification quest or return the sword to its rightful owner’s tomb or some shit, I have no idea
animebrother.bsky.social
It is also illuminating that the way the dude acted, you’d think he was convinced he’d be next?

Like he had big “I’m gonna die next in the horror movie” energy, baffling all around

Fwiw, my father was indeed insane, but that was for very normal, non-curse related reasons (genetic predisposition to mental illness, childhood abuse, refusal to get proper care or admit fault)

I guess for some people it’s easier to believe in magic than in therapy
animebrother.bsky.social
I also find out later that yes, my father HAD purchased a sword years before - I believe it was some sort of German cavalry saber from World War 1, or something like that.

Last I heard I think my family was trying to sell it off.

This show is making me remember a true story from my own life:

At my father’s funeral, his accountant turned up beet red and in a frenzy. He told my family “it didn’t have to end like this” and he’d have to discuss later

I found out later he was convinced a cursed sword had driven my father insane

Jess and I are rewatching old Goosebumps episodes since Scholastic uploaded like every season to YouTube

At this age, I am paying more attention to the parents who just sort of let disasters happen with their kids with comically little pushback

The Horror Land episodes are fun! Does leave me sympathetic to a time when you had no phone GPS on the road and just had to pray the local signage would help you find wherever the hell you were looking to go

E.g. if I got brought on to help cast something and one of the characters is a fancy talking villain, I would 100% understand if the creative team was like “well he’s like most of the characters you play, why don’t you just play him to make it simple”

That said, I personally wouldn’t initiate it
animebrother.bsky.social
Probably wouldn’t do it unless there was a lot of discussion with the team about the nature of the character in question, the budget, etc

I think most casting directors would be reluctant to do it, but from a dev standpoint that’s also one character less you have to listen to auditions for
