As a reminder to idiotic Americans. There are approximately 14 million Latinos with ties to Mexico living in the USA. Most will have access to high powered weapons. Attack Mexico and you've got a raging war inside the US that you could never put out.

Cartels in Mexico rarely intentionally target Americans because cartels don't want to get into a direct conflict with the US.
If the US initiates a direct conflict, no American in Mexico (tourists, expats, diplomats, etc.) will be safe.
