Also the structure of normal FT employment makes it difficult to fly less or take advantage of less energy intensive transport modes. With such little annual leave/ paid holidays, to see family and friends means taking many short trips instead of one or two longer trips that would reduce energy use.

Alaskans don’t meaningfully confront our own contributions to the climate crisis, both in terms of our petrostate credentials or our fossil fuel intensive lifestyles. One year I set the goal of NOT flying enough for MVP. It required careful planning and refusing work trips.
