Very happy to share that my article, Family Regulation's Consent Problem, will run in @ColumLRev! I argue that fam reg "consent" searches regularly violate the Constituion. . . & that the Constitution is a woefully incomplete solution to surveillance of marginalized communities.

A beautiful and thorough piece by @strawburriez , laying out why a carceral approach to “child welfare” — punishing individual families for societal problems — has got to go. Very exciting to see abolition move in from the fringes!

Last month, I spoke on a panel w/ the ACS commissioner & he said, "I believe [parents'] constitutional rights are clear." This month, ACS lobbies to remove the word "rights" from a bill informing parents of their rights. Huh....

This is absolutely not what prosecutors do in 99.9% of cases — they constantly overcharge to coerce pleas, charge after virtually no investigation, etc—and it’s absolutely wild, infuriating & irresponsible that @nytimes continues to run with this kind of narrative.
