Woot!! My native seeds came today. 🎉🎉These seeds are slow growing, but much desired wildflowers that I haven’t already got.

Honestly I’d rather propagate any other way than seeds but if one hasn’t got them already….

I be spending my end of the year week finishing my cold stratification project.

Went for a hike on this shortest day of the year. On our usual southern-facing trail. It was the longest we'd ever had to hike before we we got into the warm sun. What a lovely sunny day it was too. And how soon back into the shade we were once on our way back down. happy solstice. 🌒

Love being friends with teachers this time of the year😁

This year’s theme for teachers’ gifts is apparently amaryllis bulbs…. I was just re-gifted two more yesterday and I’m 😂

Before it was banned for being woke, we used to talk a lot about the social determinants of health.

@niniandthebrain.bsky.social has a phenomenal summary of how these factors influence health and why comparisons to Europe miss the point.

😳😂 at the choice of words!
Sean Duffy on slashing fuel economy standards: "This rule will actually allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon. Maybe a little wood paneling on the side. We can bring back choice to consumers."

I GIVE UP going to some websites now after the 6th time or so. When they say click on all motorcycles or busses, AM I or AM I NOT supposed to include the tires? Helmets? Mirrors? the barely visible fuzzy edges?
I'm quicker and quicker to "fuck this, I forgot why i wanted to come there anyhow."

It’s always amazing, putting on a truly tasteful menu.

And just started #currentlyreading The Cook’s Garden cuz it was recommended… and is due back in a few days.

However, Kevin West gardens on the east coast and I’m more interested in growing native, heirloom varieties than nonnative cultivars.

It’s lovely porn tho, if you like plants and flavors.

And also #currentlyreading
Bird by Bird by Anna Lamott.

She has the same self-indulgent writing style writing about writing as most gardeners turned writers in the winters do writing about gardening.🙄

I’d edit out half. Keep the good info. Lose all the overly sentimental anecdotes 🙄🙄🙄

I’m #CURRENTLYREADING the zen of gardening in the high and arid west. —- by a writer out of Colorado instead of the east coast for a change.

If one MUST read about gardening, the books written in / for / about your climate are best.

But ugh, even this one, still with the cucumbers & tomatoes.🙄

I d also been #currentlyreading

The Girl from Metropol Hotel, by the inimitable
#LudmillaPetrushevskaya
How I love her fiction short stories.

Metropol Hotel is the author’s more somber memoir.

Sometimes I forget that posting on #booksky is not just motivate/brag on myself …

I remind myself it’s been delightful discovering new books thru others’ recommendations.

So. I was #currentlyreading
- Sandwich, by Catherine Newman.

Interesting, sometimes funny, extremely self-indulgent

Omg!!! Affinity has gone FREE!
I already love it (a LOT, after my negative experience with Adobe)

Switching between the three software personas was ~always easy enough but now it’s gone seamless. 😳
I ~was worried about the merger with Canva…. this looks amazing.

I realized im so geeky excited about all these caterpillars sightings (good bye to three, 6 today!) is because we no longer have a free ranging chicken that was around the first half of the year… i had wondered and now i know. Twas only when she ate our food did her freedom end. Now yaybutterflies!

Caterpillars update: The two by the front door have matured and disappeared. But I’ve got at last 4 more coming along on other dills.

Enjoy.
October 10, 2025 at 1:28 PM
Caterpillars are SO much easier to take photos of than butterflies. 😏
October 4, 2025 at 2:44 PM
Yay caterpillars!
They are the same two that I posted the other day.
October 3, 2025 at 10:02 PM
I’m stoked that there are two swallowtail caterpillars on my dill by the front door. I’ve been trying for a couple of days to get a good photo of both in the same shot.

They change so much day by day, as they get bigger it’s getting easier to get a picture where they both show up.

I've been so busy, involved with many wonderful things. And I do want to share-- but oh, didn't I say I been busy? I nearly forgot I have this tango thing coming up with Brian this week.

(Made this flyer a month ago, and have heard that the folks are sure looking forward to this event.)
