It's tempting to laugh at this, ho ho Sam Altman and co with egg on their faces, but if it really goes pop it will not be good. Unbelievable amounts of money and bets for the future of many governments (and countries) are staked on AI

We did! With mats, and the terrifying wooden horse thing you had to jump over. We played an early version of The Floor Is Lava. I can still picture the little holes in the floor of the assembly hall that you slid the bolts into to stop the apparatus from moving when you unfolded it from the wall

The reluctance to release information is really troubling because it a) means we have no way of holding them to account and b) creates a space in which we can't do anything but speculate and that tends towards the conspiratorial

The list doesn't include some AI that we know the department are using - so is there a separate list of AI tools, and why are they not counted as an 'automation'?

In the piece I share a list of dozens of 'automations' that DWP are using, a list that I don't believe has been published elsewhere. It includes automations dealing with health and disability, automatic deductions for people in debt, and much more

Deloitte initially defended the report and seemed to deny any genAI use but they have obviously had to fess up now

Dr Christopher Rudge, law lecturer at the University of Sydney, says the report that Deloitte prepared for Australia's Department of Employment and Workplace Relations contained “hallucinations” because of an initially undisclosed use of generative AI. Now the government is getting its money back.
