Thank you! A wonderful surprise sighting... and a biologist friend confirmed for me that it is a Swainson's Hawk. Apparently the dark morph version are less common around here, so it was even more lovely to see. 😊

What bird did I see?
Thinking it's a dark morph Swainson's Hawk...?
He was perched on a treetop in open area while I was up at the top of the mountain, 7500'.
He silently glided in, and suddenly was there! (Photo quite zoomed in.)
Such a glorious sight. 🪶

Hawk perched on evergreen tree top, reddish chest, light right around beak, light around tail feathers but the rest of him, head, belly, back, all quite dark. Sunlight behind him, lighting up edge around head and down back, tail feathers.
