And if the Administration wanted to solve #homelessness, it should start by urging Congress to expand funding for rental and homelessness assistance, build towards a rental assistance guarantee, and abandon its proposals to gut them. x.com/WillPFischer...

Policymakers at all levels should reject these cruel and short-sighted approaches, which drain local resources, expose people to trauma, disrupt access to health care, and make it even harder for people to secure permanent housing—the lynchpin to solving #homelessness.

This approach will deepen inequities for folks who have high rates of homelessness like Black, Brown, LGBTQ+ & disabled people. It ignores the fact that many people’s incomes aren’t enough to pay rent and consistently meet other basic needs, forcing more people into homelessness.

The new EO aims to make many unhoused people disappear into “long-term institutional settings” and jails. The EO also seeks to encourage states to fine and arrest people living outside who have nowhere else safe to go.

In a nation as wealthy and powerful as ours, we can solve big problems like #homelessness and ensure no one is forced to sleep outside, in their car, or in a shelter. And we can do it while treating people with respect and protecting their civil rights. www.cbpp.org/research/hou...

We all want to live in communities where all our neighbors have a safe place to call home and are treated with dignity. But yesterday, Pres. Trump issued an executive order that will worsen #homelessness and punish people simply for being poor and unhoused. This is wrong.

We know affordable housing and voluntary supportive services are key to solving and preventing #homelessness, but this wave of harmful state and local bills and the Trump Administration’s policies will make homelessness worse.

The #SCOTUS decision in #JohnsonvGrantsPass set a dangerous precedent for people forced to live outside. Since then, hundreds of state bills and local ordinances have been introduced to punish unhoused people.

Policymakers should stop punishing unhoused people for not being able to afford or find housing. It’s not their fault that renters’ incomes haven’t kept up with rising rents for decades. Homelessness is a policy choice. www.cbpp.org/charts/rente...

Everyone one needs and deserves a safe place to sleep. But one year ago tomorrow, #SCOTUS decided in #JohnsonvGrantsPass that cities/states can fine or arrest unhoused people for sleeping outside even if they have nowhere safe to go.

Household budgets are tight. Cutting #Medicaid & #SNAP will put households already facing unaffordable rents at greater risk of losing their housing & undermine efforts to address #homelessness. We need to make housing & other essentials more affordable, not less!

You can’t cut hundreds of billions from #Medicaid without harming people. New CBO analysis confirms proposals House Republican have floated would leave millions uninsured, each slashing billions from Medicaid w/ $170b-$472B in cuts coming from lower enrollment . www.cbo.gov/system/files...

President Trumps's new budget reflects yet another effort to misrepresent programs that help support the most structurally marginalized members of our community as “woke.” www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

In the wealthiest nation in the world, we can ensure everyone can afford a home, including ppl earning minimum wage, ppl w/ disabilities, caretakers of kids and aging family members, and others who too often can’t afford rent w/o sacrificing food, meds, or other essentials.

Meanwhile, the budget puts even more people at risk of #eviction and #homelessness, by cutting $27 billion from #RentalAssistance that helps to prevent homelessness, and by suddenly taking rental assistance away from many people after just two years.
