What they've done here is, of course, illegal. The AAU and many universities (including Penn, Brown, MIT) are in litigation to stop (some of) what's happening. Your NSF termination is probably grounds for additional legal action. We -- you! -- will win!

Harvard and Princeton only got into the fray once the WH said they were pulling their funding. Whereas some of us (including Brown and Hopkins) stuck our necks out back in February with the NIH overhead lawsuit, and, so far, we are winning. (It's only front-page when it's Harvard though.)

First, let me be clear here that I’m speaking on my own behalf here. We try to do right by our members, and as a volunteer-run organization, we rely on all the help we can get. Everything is pretty much a function of those two inputs plus entropy. :)

Yes, it certainly calls for having an open mind for where to hold Crypto. Eight years ago we thought this would just be a four-year blip. That appears to have been wishful thinking.

Someone else has to volunteer and fast. These things take years of hard work to put together. (And visas aside it’s a good plan!) Although I’m upset too right now, there is no other option on the table. So this is likely the best we can do.

The US lost my support for hosting IACR events many illegal (because of zero due process) and outrageous ICE detentions ago. And I thought the time would never come when I'd even entertain the thought of not going to Santa Barbara...
