I meet a lot of pregnant women at work.
A grand total of 0 (ZERO!) have been advised to get a COVID vaccine in pregnancy.
I would say the majority have bought into the misinformation that the vaccine is dangerous in pregnancy, which is the opposite of the truth.

If I were paid to do this job, I'd be in the media and on social media every day.
I'd say:
1)get vaccinated for covid and the flu.
2) wear a respirator (N95) mask in crowded indoor spaces like public transit.
3) keep your holiday get-togethers safe by keeping things well ventilated and filtered.

Amazing that this review paper from 2021 just became my most cited paper of my 30+ yr career. I am honored to have been the lead first co-corresponding author with @ChiaWang8. COVID is indeed airborne--as are most other respiratory viruses. @ucsandiego.bsky.social

I've been asked by 3 media outlets in the last week to do interviews on the influenza season.

I still haven't seen our new CMOH, appointed Dec 18th, (or old one, for that matter. Or any public health official) in the media on this topic.

For the record, they are acutally paid, to do this.

The death of an Alberta patient waiting for ER care is a tragic, but predictable outcome of provincial government funding decisions

Alberta is an outlier when it comes to declining real per capita hospital expenditures from 2013 to 2022

These decisions have consequences

“This is an exceptional yr. This H3N2 variant that we have seen circulating through Canada seems to be more severe, and therefore people are getting unwell and need to come into the hospital, more so than previous yrs. It just makes our jobs so much harder to provide the good care we want to do.”

also, we have covid and influenza still causing outbreaks on hospital units. Unforced error! We should have near-zero or zero Hospital-acquired infections. Respiratory infections (including influenza and COVID) are predominantly spread by airborne means

Masks work! respirator masks work even better. If you are vulnerable wear a mask to protect yourself. If you are sick, wear a mask, or better yet stay at home and avoid making your fellow citizens sick as well.

The solution? in the short term not much, except increasing vaxx uptake (even though the match is not perfect, still decreases severe illness). Full court press! get our new CMOH on TV asking people to step up and help.
