It was lovely to drop in to Shotover View independent living housing recently at BPHA and @OSJCT
I got more than I'd bargained for as Dr Phil Freizinger's 'sweet zombie horse' had flown in to the great Waste 2 Taste cafe based there, too!
(Yes - I'm holding the sweet zombie horse's head...).

Big thanks to all who helped to organise this, including the International Tree Foundation and CAG Oxfordshire. 2/2

ICYMI, the Oxfordshire Civic, Community and Faith Leaders Group (of which I'm a member) put out this statement yesterday following the devastating terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester.

Oxford is not in the North of England!

My letter to Basketball England after the Oxford Hoops were put into Pool A of the National Basketball League.

Great to speak at an event by Oxford's own, Ruskin College, on how to unlock opportunity and combat inequality #Lab25

Thanks also to @fesonline.bsky.social and @thefabians.bsky.social for a great discussion on shared challenges and directions for @teamlabouruk.bsky.social and the @spdde.bsky.social

Sadly, witnessed a less cheerful performance from OUFC today, albeit with some good chances at the death.

Got to meet one of Olly the Ox’s friends at least…! 2/2

Fantastic World Cup win for #RedRoses today.

Terrific performance from them all, including Oxford’s own Maud Muir!

And the biggest crowd *ever* for a women’s rugby match 1/2

I don’t mind jeggings. Or even Maroon 5.

But the ConDem coalition is one 2010s revival I don’t want to see.

Workers on precarious zero-hours contracts deserve better.

It was really good to welcome Steve Reed to Littlemore, so he could see for himself the social and shared ownership homes that are going up right now.

Greater Leys is getting £20 million of long-term government money through Labour’s Pride in Place programme - £2 million every year for the next decade.

It’s up to Greater Leys residents to decide how it’s spent - let us know what you think by filling in our survey at buff.ly/a9gUkrw

It was inspiring to see inside EMBS Community College and speak with students on their learning journey right in the heart of our community at Templars Square.

EMBS gives such an important second chance for many young people and adults - to feel valued, belong and develop their huge potential.

NHS mail is now being prioritised, there are 20 new delivery vehicles, and satisfaction with the service is going up.

I will keep a close eye on how things progress. It is positive to see that Royal Mail are listening to residents and taking action to improve. 2/2

It was good to speak with posties and management at Royal Mail's East Oxford Delivery Office recently. 1/2

Professor Paul Dolan is on a mission to 'break beliefism' - the idea that we have to hate people who we disagree with.

It was a pleasure to chat with him on his podcast recently about disagreeing well, performative politics and promoting wellbeing: shows.acast.com/breaking-bel...

It was good to host the launch of this report's findings in the House of Commons

Our cities are engines of innovation and economic growth, but we also face unique challenges

Devolution needs to respect our needs so we can unlock our potential, including here in Oxford www.caseforcities.uk/
A Case for Cities
Cities are England’s growth engines, but too many are still governed by outdated boundaries defined a generation ago.

I am encouraged to see some greater engagement over recent months and will keep pushing for this. We all need a river, and riverside, that is clean and safe for local residents to enjoy. 2/2

It was good to meet recently with the Iffley Fields Residents Association about safety on the towpath and problems with abandoned and sunken boats. I have repeatedly taken up these issues with the different bodies that play a role in owning and managing different parts of the river and riverside.1/2

It was a pleasure to give @renewaljournal.bsky.social journal's annual Rita Hinden memorial lecture earlier this month at @citystgeorges.bsky.social.

Labour must adapt to today’s challenges, not least big tech’s political as well as economic power.

It was great to speak with Windale Primary School parents and guardians recently about:
✅ New nursery places for 3-4 year olds from January
✅ 30 hours funded childcare for 9 months-2 year olds being rolled out
✅ Coming soon: free breakfast clubs and lower school uniform costs

It’s really evident that reopening the Cowley Branch Line is crucial for Oxford. It will support our city's work as a global hub for the life sciences, and also make travel much quicker and more reliable for many residents of the Leys, Cowley and Littlemore.

It was great to spend time at Oxford BioDynamics, an excellent example of the world-leading innovation happening here in Oxford East. The work they do in Cowley has the potential to transform cancer diagnostics around the world and ensure that people get the treatments they need as soon as possible

Pleased to host a debate for WACL on parental leave and gender equality in Parliament this week, with insightful speakers from @mumsnet.com, Pregnant Then Screwed, and many other organisations.

A valuable and respectful conversation about how we improve working and parenting conditions for all:
