Barnard 150 (au centre de l’image) est une nébuleuse obscure de la constellation Céphée : un nuage de poussière et de gaz si dense qu’il cache les étoiles situées derrière lui. Sa forme évoque celle d’un hippocampe.

Une nébuleuse sombre, composée de « volutes » noir et brunes est au centre de l’image. Sa forme tortueuse évoque celle d’un hippocampe sombre (elle est d’ailleurs parfois nommée « dark seahorse nebula »). Elle fait partie du « catalogue Barnard des marques sombres dans le ciel », publié pour la première fois en 1919 par l’astronome américain Edward Emerson Barnard. Sur toute la surface de l’image, des nuages d’un brun plus ou moins foncé obscurcissent les étoiles en arrière-plan. En haut de l’image, quelques « nuages » sont colorés en rouge : il s’agit de nuages d’hydrogène ionisés (H alpha), faisant partie d’une nébuleuse par émission beaucoup plus large.

Je viens d’apprendre qu’elle s’appelle Sarcococca hookeriana humilis ou buis d’hiver…. Mais il sent super bon alors que le buis, ça empeste!
