I am a qualified bell ringer. I have certificates to prove it. I am insured. I am exceedingly fond of Stedman

Day 10 of the #HooklandChristmasTree decoration sees us taking the ornament representing Dedwick's four sunken churches from its box. We can't resist shaking it to hear its tiny bells ring. For a moment we think we also hear waves, the tidal teeth of the King-Under-the-Sea.

A most enjoyable practice! Double Court, Cambridge, Woodbine, Stedman, Bob Doubles and lots of Mexican Wave variations for our learner (handstroke places, backstroke places and dodgy) - and a curious neighbour came to watch and listen and have a chime 😊

I very much enjoyed today’s Sunday Service ringing! At Tower One our homegrown band rang a nice touch of Bob Triples and at Tower Two there was Stedman 💕 Inbetween the two towers there were some paddle boarding Santas

At the @mrdc1715.bsky.social today it was all about Cambridge - rather pleased with the way my Cambridge Major is coming along, given that I ring it so rarely. Definitely about time we gave it a go in the tower 😊

Colin was in charge of our monthly All Saints practice tonight and discharged his Ringing Master duties with panache. We attempted lots of things, succeeded at a few, and had two chocolate breaks. The resident spiders were entertained!

Bit alarmed to open my advent calendar today to reveal Black Shuck rampaging through the countryside - I fear this bodes ill for the festive season …

Feeling annoyed with myself for getting distracted then lost in tonight’s Cambridge, our touch of Stedman Triples failed to take off, and there’s now mostly just toffees left in the tin ☹️ in better news our Double Oxford was declared ‘good’ and Judith, back after hols, wrote the ringing record 😀

Both towers had their grumpy moments today - thankfully the sun is out now ☀️ Stedman Doubles at both towers did not bring happiness ☹️ but a touch of Stedman Triples at Tower One sparked great joy 🤩

Taking a day off work for the opening of Ashes 2025 was undoubtedly one of my better decisions - totally wild!

The study paid off and I am super chuffed to have made it through a few plain courses of DNCBM at @mrdc1715.bsky.social 😀 It can’t have been that dreadful as I have been asked to learn the bobs for next time 🎉

Touches of Cambridge, and Woodbine Delight were on the menu at tonight’s practice - not much came round but there was plenty of learning and chocolate

We had two whole bands in the tower tonight - so all very snug and warm! Lots of plain hunt for our learners and Stedman for the rest of us - successfully avoided the Aberdare this time!

Such a beautiful programme design!

I ❤️ it here

A happy Sunday service ring - I particularly enjoyed lowering the back four at Tower One, and treble bobbing to a touch of Norwich at Tower Two. There was Stedman too 😊 in sadder news, the beautiful tree has now lost its leaves

To atone for yesterday’s post, I elected to ring some more plain courses of Bob Major today at @mrdc1715.bsky.social - it was equally enjoyable to that which I rang on Tuesday …

Christmas present suggestion for your favourite Stedman conductor…

We put in a very strong performance at practice night - we managed some home grown Cambridge Minor on the front six and, wonder of wonders, managed a touch of Stedman Triples 🙌 this all made up for having to ring Aberdare St Elevan Place Triples …

Highlight of the week so far: discovering Teasel (my cat) was second on the vet’s waiting list - after The Duke of Purr. One does have to respect the hierarchy …

Fantastic time at Stedman hour this lunchtime at @mrdc1715.bsky.social - heap loads of touches of Stedman Triples with bobs and singles galore 😀

Perky little practice tonight, with the main focus on Double Court Bob Minor to help with treble awareness. However having almost got to grips with that, we moved on to Single Oxford. Too much for my poor little brain to process 😂

Yet another packed ringing chamber this time for tonight’s monthly All Saints practice - we managed to get through loads!!! More of us are ringing Cambridge which is great news - and we also caught up with old friends Double Oxford and St Clements. Huge fun 🤩
November 4, 2025 at 9:55 PM
Both towers were bursting at the seams today with about 16 ringers at each, so standing room only in the ringers lounge at Tower Two. The lower at Tower One with chiming in queens was a huge success and the Stedman was pleasant at both

Another fun practice night - most things didn’t go according to plan, but my excuse, which I am sticking to, is that I was distracted by other people going wrong 😉 my touch of Grandsire Doubles unexpectedly came round though, thank goodness!

Tonight’s ringing was eclipsed by the fact I was gifted some shiny, googly eyed Halloween stickers for the ringing record book. I went on to award us an ugly, fat, purple spider and a glittery pumpkin - there was also Stedman Doubles, Stedman Triples and chocolates 🕷️🎃
