Hello #DVPit !!
I can't be here today but if you have a manuscript that reads like an upmarket high Fantasy novel with a Horror plot, I want to read it.
Query Manager link pinned to my profile.

literally happened to me yesterday!! a query was withdrawn with a very angry message attached to the notification.

if waiting on agents to read your full and get back to you (while balancing clients, personal schedules, etc) is too difficult, the submission process is going to be excruciating.

Is it okay to nudge? Of course. But keep your emotions in check. If you're losing it after 3-6 months of not hearing from an agent, how are you going to handle 1+ years of no response from editors once you're on sub? I know it's hard, but be cool, calm, and collected. #querytip #writers #amquerying

Only name if they ask. And they're probably asking because they're gauging if they have a shot, so if they ask, it's a good sign.

"Just not for me" is totally subjective. It doesn't mean the manuscript is bad, just means it doesn't fit with that agent at that time. That said, unless the book can fit solidly in a specific section at a bookstore, it's going to be a tougher sell.

They were just great writing with great writers and a great premise and a great time in the marketplace and I knew who I would have subbed it to... Missed opportunity! It all worked out though, so huzzah! I love it when great books land.

Also Blue Bar by Damyanti Biswas and Daughter of Sparta by Claire Andrews...

Mother-Daughter Murder Night slipped through my fingers. It made it into the right hands - so I'm pleased as punch for the author and agent! But damn, I wish I'd repped that.

I personally see no problem with this. If you have a large fanfiction following and then write something original you already have fans lined up to buy your new work.

There was a time when agents would flock to online pitch events. I'm not sure that's true anymore - but that could only be because I don't attend them anymore and rely solely on queries and referrals. My free advice: do it, AND also query widely.

In fiction platform is not 100% necessary. Have an author website - it can be super basic - where agents and then later when you're on submission, editors can see your bio, your books, that you're human. If you write non-fiction platform is extremely important b/c publishers want a built-in audience

I need a break from queries.
Anyone have any questions?
I'll do an #AskAgent if that's at all helpful...
And go!

The amount of time I have had to console and counsel and protect young booksellers and baristas from irate irrational imbeciles or creepy stalkers - I cannot even count.
Yell at me, whatever, I'm on equal ground, I can take you on.
Those are fucking kids.
Wtf is the matter with you?

If you're a customer posting a video of baristas and retail workers as some sort of political soapbox in hopes of embarrassing and humiliating them - I hope you fall into a pit of undead velociraptors.

Rewatching Downton Abbey & I hate early seasons Branson. Why take a job in England if you despise them so much? It completely negates his beliefs that he marries an aristocrat's daughter. Then he complains abt them being exactly who they are (to their faces) when he's the one who put himself there.

Dear Reader, I did not remember where my backpack was until AFTER I CHECKED MY CAR and saw my sweater.

In a perfect example of ADHD object impermanence I hid my backpack under a sweater in my car while I went inside a store, went shopping, then home, got out of the car, took a shower, ate lunch, and then spent a good 5 minutes blinking, trying to remember where I'd last seen my backpack.
