Let’s all stop buying cheap disposable clothes, even if the price is tempting. It’s crap for the planet, the workers & for end of life management. Be honest: most of the time we have other options. Yes, durable clothes are more expensive, but last longer so we can buy less. Or buy better stuff used.
Fast-fashion recycling: how ‘the castoff capital of the world’ is making Indian factory workers sick
Reports of lung disease, skin conditions and even cancer are rising in Panipat, which recycles 1 million tonnes of textile waste a year

Interesting. It sure is gorgeous. Even if it is just art, the gap between what others can dream of (health care for all, high speed rail, solar at scale, safe bike lanes) and the substandard crumbs we have acclimated to here is stunning. Why don’t people in the US demand these life quality upgrades?

How bad does it have to get before R Senators realize standing by this man is not good for their career or their legacy? Clearly it’s not good for the country, but that’s not enough to move them. At some point, some of them have got to stand up and say “this is wrong” and stop enabling him. When??
‘The president is unhinged’: Trump’s online behavior grows increasingly odd
The US president’s recent behavior is strange to many, from reposting a false AI video of himself to confusing comments during press conferences

Questions for people outside the U.S.: watching what is going on in the United States today, what’s it look like? What are your media and communities saying? How would you describe it? And what questions are you wondering about?

I am so grateful for Jane! She is working to elect climate champions through @janeclimatepac.bsky.social and working to protect ALL our right to free speech!

Our country is so messed up that “US law prohibits giving healthcare to illegal immigrants” is an any way reassuring rather than cause for alarm. Access to health care should be available to everyone who needs it. What are we, sociopaths?

“For all the effort Republicans invest in making the president out to be some powerful colossus, what we’re left with is a flailing man whose operation feels compelled to whine about actors, cartoons and late-night monologues.”

With all the pressing national issues of the day yesterday- government shut down to more shootings to extreme weather to ICE dragging sleeping children away in handcuffs in Chicago - the White House found time to insult Jane Fonda.

Trump White House adds Jane Fonda to its growing list of celebrity targets
Whether Trump realizes this or not, the more he and his team try to fight celebrities, the smaller and more pitiful the White House appears.

“When I feel scared, I look to history. I wish there were a secret playbook with all the answers — but there never has been. The only thing that has ever worked — time and time again — is solidarity: binding together, finding bravery in numbers too big to ignore, and standing up for one another."
Hundreds of celebrities relaunch a McCarthy-era committee to defend free speech
The Committee for the First Amendment first launched in the 1940s, when the House Un-American Activities Committee accused Hollywood actors, directors and writers of being communists or sympathizers.

“Acts of non-cooperation are very powerful,” Merriman, the former president of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, says. “Non-cooperation is very much about numbers. You don’t necessarily need people doing things that are high-risk. You just need large numbers of people doing them.”

I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

I know we are supposed to have empathy for Trump voters, not judge them, and welcome them in once they see the danger we face, but my god, I am filled with rage that anyone supports this absolutely monstrous act. How can these men sleep at night, face their own children? This is devastating.

Let’s look at history. What examples are you thinking of?

Depends if the boycott can get enough traction to cause financial or reputational harm. Small ones can be waited out and ignored. But Jimmy Kimmel is back on - so that’s good!
anniemleonard.bsky.social
As a lifelong activist, I was skeptical of consumer boycotts. It’s hard to scale enough for impact & can reinforce the primacy of indiv acts in the marketplace, over collective political power building & governance. The current moment changed my mind: I cancelled Disney and encourage everyone to.
gelliottmorris.com
currently at record-high search interest for canceling disney plus. pulling kimmel is a bigger deal to the company's bottom line than any of the "woke" scandals of the past 5 years. i think news & entertainment corp execs need put more work into understanding their audience, & get off twitter

Today’s example of how Better-Things-Are-Possible, check out how Finland reduced the number of homeless people, with 4 out of 5 back into a stable life. This is cheaper and kinder than accepting homelessness. (And no need for lethal injections as a Fox News recently suggested!)
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

Everything needs to shut down.

Democrats need to not fund this oppressive government which is being used by Trump to oppress Americans.

National Strike.

Boycotts.

This country, especially Trump and his billionaire friends, worships money. Green trumps the color White.

Gotta shut it down.
