As far as I've researched it, which was cursory I'll admit, it's intrinsic to the potato. There will always be some of the toxin in any potato, BUT it increases to toxic levels if the plant is infected with late blight or if stored improperly. Which you could argue is our direct impact on the planet

I KNOW. I was not prepared to learn that even the tubers, the very potato part, can contain the toxin that all the above ground parts of the plant have. Although, 🤔, it makes complete sense.
