Fix your site first, then I might try out your Beta features. And even then, most things YouTube is putting on the site are AI-powered trash, so I wouldn't. I'm sorry if I sound like a sourpuss, but I've hated the direction YouTube has been going for over almost a decade at this point.

And here is one of 600's sisters in her NdeM guise. Note the modification to the tender, as these engines were converted to burn oil on the NdeM. They were also reclassified as the UR-1.

Here's a rather handsome 2-8-4 of the Norfolk Southern! 600 here was one of five F-1 Berks built in 1940 for the Norfolk Southern, and proved their worth during the war. These engines were sold in 1950 for scrap, but were picked up by the NdeM before their actual scrapping years later.

To be short, they were outright failures. The induced draft fans were rapidly eroded by cinders, and their soft exhausts essentially choked out their crews with smoke. Both engines were quickly retired and replaced by more modern 0-8-0s.

Well, the combustion chambers and flues were shortened, induced draft fans were installed, and mechanical stokers and water level controls were added. Their tenders had their water and coal capacity levels increased, and mechanical lubricators were also added.

transferred to switching and transfer service, it made sense to try and rectify this issue. This was also a cost cutting measure as well. So, two M2s were rebuilt between 47-48 and.. this was the result. Asides from the obvious cosmetic changes, what else was changed?

Here is what I have dubbed "The Slugs." They were really nicknamed an "Automatic Switcher," but I feel like my nickname is apt. Anyways, what was the point of such a design? Well, in the late 40's, the N&W was having issues with smoke abatement laws, and since many of their aging Mollies had been

So, as I do, I was reading up on the Great Eastern, specifically locomotives from James Holden, and apparently he had an affinity for oil burners. What's odd is that this included some of the P43s and the D27s, of which were singles!

It is the best holiday once again my friends! I hope you are all doing well this morning, I've slept about 10 minutes, maybe, but I'm always ready for Halloween! Does anyone here have any good ghost stories? I'd like to hear em!

Cool little bit of railway history, this is when the Erie was in the process of changed it's gauge from six foot to standard. So, to accommodate, they laid a third rail for standard gauge equipment.

The cause of such a mess up? An unruly ALCo Brooks 0-6-0 that was meant to replace the line's aging 2-4-2. It LOVED jumping tracks so much that not long after purchase, the 0-6-0 was sold.

Does anyone else really like this scheme or is it just me?
September 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM
Yeah the Amtrak Phase I for the GG1s wasn't the greatest, but ehh this doesn't cut it for me. Little too much blue. Although, I think they'd wear this great, with black at each cab end.

Speaking of 18, I know it's probably common knowledge but I was able to identify her whistle as a CNR 4 chime, based on the relief on the bowl.

336 of these units were built between 1950 to 1961, going to railways such as the NYC, PRR (and later Penn Central), ATSF, MILW, and SP! They were almost identical to their predecessors, but as production went on some of their design elements were changed to cut costs, mostly cosmetic.

Here's a rather unsung locomotive! This is ex-US Army 1843, an FM H12-44. She was one of 20 built for the Army and is among 16 other survivors, including 9 other ex-military units! 1843 holds the distinction of being the only operable H12-44 in the Northeast, per the R&GVRRM.
