Right, like this is one of those rulings where I DO get the confusion because it's someone saying "But it only has 3 Toughness now!" But Magic is funny in the specifics of rules like that.

The reason it doesn't is because the damage taken by the 4/4 doesn't make it a 4/3, it makes it a 4/4 with 1 damage. Upon getting hit with -3/-3, it would become a 1/1 with 1 damage on it. Damage doesn't lower your toughness it's just marked on the creature, which doesn't matter with indestructible.

I get the LOGIC of the counterargument, but taking 1 damage doesn't reduce it's base toughness to 3, it's 4 toughness with 1 damage on it, so reducing it's base Toughness to 1 doesn't kill it. I do fully believe you have the right approach, just, yknow... grain of sand that a judge may call me silly
