They're all worth "investing" in good quality items (understanding that they're really consumables, but the investment is in your own well-being).

I think over $200 isn't a bad rule of thumb, although "specialized" shoes like good winter boots certainly push that number.
More than absolutes though, anything that comes between you and the ground needs to have a very good cost / benefit calculation.

The thing with New Trek is that it's waaay too often done poorly, written with little nuance and an abundance of unearned, heightened drama that's but wrapped in what might be the best looking TV shows ever made.

"More woke" is a ludicrous take, hard agree: GOOD sci-fi should include current societal issues and either highlight the absurdity of them from a point of view where they've been resolved, or to confront the issues and have your characters navigate them... packaged in a future that could be ours.
