Do not cave on this shutdown. They own it with their callous, cruel policies and the public sees more evidence of it daily. They will never vote in favor of the ACA subsidies. Never. Their promises are worth nothing.

Don't you DARE cave now. A promise of a vote will achieve nothing. All of this will have been for nothing. Make it matter.

I am an American. I understand that our nation's history is filled with both accomplishments to be proud of and dark chapters to learn from. The beauty of Americans, is that we see these truths. We own them and we use them as fuel and inspiration to do better and to be better.

As a history teacher, it is so sickening that this tragedy is no longer only a shameful part of our past, but also our present. 💔

And yet that was exactly how the GDR govt tried to sell it to their captive citizens. It wasn't there to keep them in, it was an "antifaschistischer Schutzwall" (anti-fascist protective wall) to protect them from the west.
