In a little over a week, I’ll be joining Blizzard as a contracted Sound Designer working on World of Warcraft.
WoW is my all-time favorite game and has always been the dream gig. The BlueSky character limit is the only thing keeping me from gushing about it even more!

I ordered a print from my favorite artist. Its arrival was delayed while she was making an international move, so she threw in a free custom piece with “Sorry” etched into the top. Made my day.

Yup, the gate opening was like entering into a dark fantasy. I imagine so many directors would have settled for big_gate_open_03.wav, but they went all-in on every detail.

I strongly encourage any sound designer to grab @nate-m.bsky.social's free "Impacter" Snap Heap & Phase Plant presets (available here: lnkd.in/eWuGvkez). You can toss anything into it and it'll spit out great source for ballistics, Sci-Fi textures or general impact sounds.

Just rustle some plastic -> use a transient shaper to accentuate the details -> compress it way too many times -> blend in some distortion -> modulate it a bit.

Ah yes, the budget emulation of a completely different microphone becoming the replacement for a… completely different microphone. I can’t think of a more apples-to-oranges comparison. YouTube clickbait is on another level.

Agreed. I also think skeuomorphic plug-ins don’t always lend themselves towards being manipulated by mouse-and-keyboard efficiently. Maselec plug-in emulations immediately come to mind as RSI-generators.
Trying to tune the center frequencies on these EQs requires 20/20 vision and a healthy wrist!
