Now, recently me and my partner looked up as we were crossing Great Junction Street and saw a naked woman fresh from the shower!

Always look up, you never know what you can't unsee!

going to refer to wiki...

None of this is in the film. There's an attempt at something ... in that final scene. Unfortunately Bella's character was still being portrayed with a learning disability & so I rejected it. It was very bad. I've people like Bella, issues of consent are extremely fraught

Well exactly.

I have to confess that I've not read it in many years. I remember liking it back in the day, but the guy I was then isn't the guy I am now. Maybe I would feel differently? I would have to re-read it to be sure.

As I started to read your comment I was going to ask if you made that book!

Because I spend a lot of time with people in the Learning Disability community, I'm afraid to say that the portrayal of Bella's character was quite offensive to me. L's ironic eye doesn't undo the very problematic way consent was handled.

People like Lanthimos should be careful, if we can remove the writer, we may find we have no need for the director either.

I never met Alasdair - so lucky to have had that opportunity. We live in a world, particularly in cinema, in which the storyteller credit is neglected. This is parcel of the AI thing: people who only see creativity as something to be exploited, packaged & commodified. Content.

Why else are we here! 😂
January 19, 2026 at 11:04 AM
ah yes! I have a nice one of that somewhere as well!

Me neither!

No, although it's not far.

It's the vennel between St Andrews St and the road which TK Maxx is on.

And it wasn't just the lack of scottishness which bothered me. The sexual mores of Poor Things are also highly suspect. I was very surprised there wasn't more criticism of that.

I know. We only matter inasmuch as we can supply a comedy accent and men in skirts... and/or shortbread.
January 19, 2026 at 10:38 AM
Wow. That takes me back! We had the Noodle Shack in Edinburgh.

Also a few successful dates because it was a real experience!

It was also open late to serve a late night crowd that existed beyond August because Edinburgh had decent night life back then. Ah miss those days.

Thinking about it now, it felt like you had to know it was there. It was so weird & communal, I can't imagine students today getting their heads around it.

That's very true
