🛑 According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) newest Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, there’s been a 25% increase in the number of trafficking victims detected globally since before the pandemic.

🛑 Individuals can be trafficked for the purposes of labour exploitation, sexual exploitation, debt bondage, forced marriage, domestic servitude, organ removal, forced begging, and other slavery-like practices.

🛑 Trafficking doesn’t only happen across international borders – it happens domestically, too.

#HumanTrafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of persons by means of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of exploitation. For children, it is considered human trafficking regardless of whether coercion or abuse was used.

Law enforcement, regulators, and policymakers urgently need to understand the threats posed by AI-enhanced trafficking. Understanding these issues will help them develop targeted, adaptable strategies to fight human rights issues that are becoming impacted by AI. 🎯

Some AI tools are already easily accessible, cheap, and skilled at copying human patterns and networks. Traffickers can get around any embedded security features and target people with ease.

It also requires coordinated regional efforts, as well as implementing comprehensive laws and clear regional commitments. Child slavery is a child rights issue!

EPAD delivered the message that ending the forced begging of Talibé children and ensuring a world that is fit for its children requires prevention, child protection systems that respond to the needs of Talibé children.

Our partners EPAD attended the 46th Ordinary Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (#ACERWC45) in #Maseru, Lesotho in Nov. 2025. The session also commemorated the 35th anniversary of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (#ACRWC35).

Today is their pre-trial hearing. We hope Dyson takes responsibility, the workers finally see justice. If they do, a precedent will be set to stop companies from offshoring their abuses.

A group of migrant workers have been waiting nearly four years to have their day in court with Dyson. The workers alleged they were abused making Dyson products in Malaysia. As Dyson is a UK company, the workers successfully argued that the case should be heard in the UK a year ago.
