"feast" is made up of various non-demon foodstuffs, anyways, so implied cannibalism is DEFINITELY not the issue here for land demons.)

get why sea demons are making such a big deal out of a false king dying?? Seems kinda treason-y to them. To which sea demons, nearly all of them, universally, would INSTANTLY snap back with "SHUT UP YOU DON'T GET IT" since it's such an important holiday for them culturally, and in the modern day the

(As a final note, cannibalism is not why the land demons don't celebrate it, trust me they are already explicitly stated in the series to have canonical cannibalistic tendencies and feel absolutely ZERO GUILT about ANY of it. Again, land demons weren't there, weren't part of the culture, don't

One that united all demons together. And so, sea demons celebrate this day with a massive feast- intended to be evocative of Cetus' body. (Even if it actually isn't Cetus' body, Cetus was eaten aaaaaages ago-)

So long story short, in my mental rewrite, they have a holiday about cannibalism lol

called, "king of the seas".

So the holiday celebrates this. The first ever king of the sea, and how they only managed to be worthy of the title in death. But it is also, somewhat, of both a funeral and a birth. Because on that day, the era of the old ways officially died. But, a new era was born.

From Delkira earning the respect of the sea demons, they learned that the point of a monarch (in theory) was to provide- and Cetus? Never did provide. Cetus was an apex predator- who only took. Never provided anything, really. Until they died.

It is only then that Cetus TRULY became worthy of being
November 7, 2025 at 12:31 AM
And how did Cetus do that?

By providing for their 'subjects'- the inhabitants of the sea.

By becoming a massive feast that lasted for HUNDREDS of years.

Cetus became the demon equivalent of a whale fall, and the sea denizens feasted on their massive corpse until nothing was left but bone.

king, and technically the sea demons of Cetus' time didn't, either, they were just too afraid to dispute that self-proclaimed title.)
The modern-day interpretation is that Cetus, in life, was never a king of any sort except by name. Only in death did Cetus truly embody what it meant to be a king.
November 7, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Delkira's defeat over Cetus. Except that's not it at all. Delkira's there, but the holiday itself isn't even about Delkira.

It's about Cetus. Cetus is the 'king' mentioned in the name- even though Cetus was never an actual king. (At least, nobody on land even entertains the thought of Cetus as a

I haven't decided on the name yet but I'd want the holiday to be in some reference to kings and not necessarily Cetus directly- land demons would assume it's a holiday centered around the most recent demon king, Delkira. And he is involved, yes. You'd think the holiday would be about celebrating

display of power. With Cetus defeated, their corpse sinks to the ocean floor and is so large, heavy, and massive, that it creates a deep trench. Cetus' ancient, massive bones remain there today and have become a sort of unique biome there.

So. HOW do you make a holiday out of this, you wonder?
November 7, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Delkira hears of this alleged king of the seas and goes to visit Cetus and challenges them- winner is the true king. Cetus accepts because Cetus is the biggest and Delkira is itty bitty in comparison so Cetus is obviously gonna win- only to get absolutely demolished by Delkira in a terrifying
November 7, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Cetus is the largest ever living demon, obviously a sea demon. And being full of themselves, claim themselves as king of the seas. There's no one else bigger or stronger to challenge them on this even if sea demons have NEVER respected any form of monarchy or authority, and Cetus KNEW that.
November 7, 2025 at 12:31 AM
the ranking system and was still somewhat living in "the old ways" of survival of the fittest- even though land demons were already developing kings and ranking systems. (Sea demons didn't need to develop those like land demons did because they actually learned how to not be terrible to each other-)
November 7, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Also why would land demons care about Cetus? They weren't there and they don't understand the cultural significance of Cetus' defeat for the sea demons or how much of an aura moment it was for Delkira- (Which is why they made a holiday out of it.)

Minor recap, sea demons did not abide by kings or

wanted to learn about Levialon, the culture, how the sea world differs from the land, etc etc.

Anyways I'll probably post more lore vomitting about obscure series I like here until I feel comfortable enough to repost my old art, so I'll probably be back later with more lore stuff, haha

different the sea culture is from the land culture. I was really let down by the Levialon arc in every aspect, I wanted more lore and worldbuilding, we'd never been in any of the other schools, we'd NEVER been in the sea before, so this. This is just me fleshing it out with more of what I would've

realm. I would like all of this stuff to be more established in the Levialon rewritten arc (which I may or may not make, but I'm constantly coming up with ideas for it and stuff, if Nishi isn't gonna give us world-building on the sea then dammit Imma do it myself) to emphasize and show how wildly

Then Balam realizes Iruma is totally lying to him and proceeds to have an existential crisis as he second-thinks everything he and other scholars have ever believed about humans if they're NOT living in a peaceful utopia-)

... So anyway, that's my personal lore headcanons about the sea in the demon
November 2, 2025 at 8:07 PM
... well, Balam MIGHT have a theory based on that, though. "Human civilization MUST be like the sea except more of a flawless and peaceful utopia, because humans are inherently peaceful creatures that always get along-" and then Iruma's in the corner cringing and going, "... Yeah, you're so right."

one and the same. Yet, the sea's mysterious allure and rich biodiversity allowed for the birth of a quite unique culture within the netherworld, ironically more aligned with the more ancient and advanced human societies they don't believe in. (Not that demon would know that, humans are just myths.
