recently had a lecture on why illustrators get paid so little in comparison to other fields (like fine art) - and im just frustrated that no one values the art they interact with every day, simply because they see it so much.

Value artists, they're all around you! They deserve to afford to live!

I do agree with you pretty much entirely! Just adding a perspective that might not have been addressed, since academics in illustration have it.

this exactly this - there are uses but there are also other solutions that aren't so fucking bad for everyone.

I should mention - most of the outcomes we agreed on from those lectures was 1. it needs heavy regulation from governments. 2. should not be used in crucial learning years and 3. copyright law needs updating one way or another (UK laws)

but, I will not stop people using the tools at their disposal if they are struggling. However, it should not be used to write essays. AI is sometimes okay for feedback or truly random patterns that humans would struggle to create. That's all I know, plenty have said the downsides that I agree with:)

or dyslexia, etc. The academic world can feel impenetrable and being able to put a document into a system that reads it back to you in easier terms is handy when you have a deadline. I think this speaks more to the flaws in academia regarding accessibility and AI is not the answer for this -

something new and funky. That doesn't offset the negatives of its training or ecological or ethical impact but is worth keeping in mind. These are professional illustrators that have PhDs. No one is saying they're not artists. Using AI is also useful for some people with processing difficulties

Hi 👋 Artist here that has received lectures on the utility and ethics of AI. I don't think it's ethical to use AI to produce outcomes. Not essays, not illustrations, nothing. However, I do see that it can be used by *some artists*. In the best cases, this is messing with the glitches to make -
