Yes, I think it is still possible. A lot of podcasts will have their own website you can go to and listen to episodes. Or, you could go to a search engine like podcastindex.org, search for the podcast you want and play.

The Podcast Index is here to preserve, protect and extend the open, independent podcasting ecosystem.

I've been using Sembast happily for a years, but whilst it's great to use, it's limited to running only within the main thread. I've looked at lots of options such as Isar, ObjectBox, Realm (as it was). In the end, I'm heading towards plain old - and reliable - SQLite. I really hope Isar comes back.

It's certainly my escape. I use an old phone purely for listening to podcasts and audio in general; no phone signal, no notifications, no being disturbed whilst I listen.

Nope, I've tried, but I can't listen to anything that isn't at 1x speed.

I started building my own app a few years ago and, for me, one of the biggest issues was complexity. There are so many fantastic apps, but some offer so many features they can be quite complex. I wanted something simpler & I've discovered there are lots of others who do too. Good luck and have fun!

It's a tough balance between making money so you can keep developing and not nagging your users as to annoy them. I can certainly vouch for building your own - it can be a lot of fun!

Exactly this! The audio content is decentralised and openly available, giving developers many different ways to present the same #podcasts; from big shows to small. Everyone's idea of the perfect podcast app is different, and there are numerous apps out there to satisfy those ideas.

I enjoyed this episode. It is great that the podcasting ecosystem allows anyone to create their own podcast app and connect it to shows big and small. Everyone's ideas of the perfect podcast app is also different, so if there isn't an app already out there, maybe someone is currently building it!
