The whole issue with Venezuela started when Hugo Chávez nationalized the oil companies. Trump even talked about it in his speech today. Now the oil industry in Venezuela goes back to private oil companies. Wars over the protection of private companies outside of the U.S.

They are targeting Venezuela because the previous president, Hugo Chávez nationalized the oil industry. Taking ownership away from privately owned Oil Companies.
