Be like Joan Jett. Be like Joan Jett to the extent of your ability to be like Joan Jett, then push it some more to be even more like Joan Jett.

I've played a Höfner violin bass with flatwounds and I've never wanted to not put an instrument down as much as that garbled grammar can express. I wonder if there's something generational here? The Höfner brand might not be as iconic for non-Boomers?

I have a love/hate relationship with Xmas music but I'm putting together a playlist and this one occurred to me. If they gave out licenses to play Chuck Berry songs (not everyone should be allowed), Dave Edmunds would be one of the few with one of them. Its fucking great.

Don't miss episode eight, about the guitars in Ryan Coogler's film Sinners. It's a departure from the historical track I've been following, but it's already a listener favorite.

A year ago, the world let out a collective "meh" when Trump-endorsed/signed guitars hit the market. A signed copy was $11,000. I thought I would check back in on the story.

According to his 2025 financial disclosure, Trump made $1,055,000 from those guitars.

Many of us tried to play Smoke on the Water the first time we picked up a guitar. Its a song that seems to be genetically encoded.

Listening to it recently, it occurred to me that its not about smoke and water. It's about wealthy rock stars being inconvenienced.

The guitar business isn't just about business. It's about the way the guitar circulates and insinuates itself into musical cultures. So, I found this stellar infographic. Also, The Observatory of Economic Complexity is objectively one of the best names ever, for anything.

This is the first in a series of bonus bleats about guitar music that you need to hear. It's called 57 SECONDS OF SOMETHING I’M LISTENING TO.

This record showcases Ernest Tubb's badass band, the Texas Troubadours. With this record he stepped aside and let his band rip shit up. Which they did.

Hey listeners around the world (particularly in Finland and New Zealand, because apparently this thing is charting there), I just published Episode Six of A People's History of the Guitar. It's called Strung Theory, and its about string.

Hi all, I have an update about the podcast.

I had planned new content, but our house was hit with a virus that damaged my voice. I haven’t been able to record.

I’ll update as stuff goes up. You can still start at the start now to get the idea. People are listening and supporting!
