Leave the leaves, February 19: snow day. This was earlier today; now there’s 2” of snow and it is COLD out there. The next three days will be full of keeping thawed water available for all the farm critters (chickens, alpacas, goats, and pigs). #leavetheleaves #pollinatorhabitat

Leave the leaves: documenting how they decay and mulch our grass over winter. I don’t leaf blow, shred, or rake them. This is the series so far, about nine weeks in: a bunch of oak leaves on a couple kinds of grass (bermuda and fescue), going from golden to brown to just about starting to crumble.

That’s 55,000 thousand bibles if anyone’s counting.

Meet Butterscotch! She’s a Nigerian Dwarf goat doeling that i got from a retiring farm on Sunday. She’s a little shy still but tonight she ate cheerios out of my hand if i sat ABSOLUTELY STILL. We’ll win her over. Gracie, Pink, Arthur, and Fiona (who thinks she is a lap goat) will show her the way.

We moved here over six years ago and hit the ground running, fixing up an abandoned farm and house. Today we went exploring! (My spouse is from around here but only went the range of a kid on a bike)…so today we went to Boze Mill Camp on the Mark Twain National Forest.
