Long story short, he gets put to work by Gegeruju after recovering by helping build what we know as Costa Del Sol in the current era. After it's finished, he sets out to learn about himself and where he came from, becoming an adventurer.

His story in Eorzea starts off with him washing up on the shores of Vylbrand. After being shipwrecked at sea and bereft of any memories that would clue him in on his origins, workers who were building Costa Del Sol at the time, found him with naught but the clothes on his back and his katana.
