It is but not insurmountable. The wine industry has the same problems but are tackling them. The kicker there being you can make a 20 quid bottle of wine 30 and no one cares. Harder when you're making a 2 quid carton of almond milk 3.

Something which is interesting is that honeybees specifically also do something odd compared to other pollinators. A bumblebee will go flower to flower of all different types. Honeybees prefer to go to flowers of the same type for some reason. This is what makes them so good at pollinating.

To be honest I'm not sure but you'd end up with the same result, a monoculture pollinated by a single species.

Honeybees do increase crop yields and there have been studies on that vs natural pollinators.

What happen though is those other pollinators get out competed.

It's because honeybees are domesticated and easy to transport to the almond farms. These are vast monocultures which would struggle to support other pollinator. These honeybees are shipped in on mass to do a job and then packed up and moved out. We don't have another pollinator we can do that with.

It's a really important conversation that a lot of beekeepers need to be having. Even at my small scale as a hobby beekeeper I can have an overall negative effect on the wildlife around my hives. A lot of us just don't see that or refuse to accept it.
