What do they mean *potential* conflicts of interest?

People gotta talk about the online selection effect where you agree with 98% of what a person says, comment on the 2% you disagree with, and thereby come across as incredibly pugilistic to them, when in fact the reality is just the opposite.

Why is Bluesky having a multiple day meltdown over Bari Weiss? I agree it's bad, but it's not the worst thing in the world. It makes this place look like an anon board for journalists talking shop.

Uhhhhh.... this article has major moral implications for what we might think about the Gaza war. www.ynetnews.com/article/rk1u...
Leveling the battlefield: IDF refines urban warfare tactics as rookie officers prepare for first Gaza fight
What used to require dangerous, painstaking work by sappers can now be achieved in as little as three minutes; lessons learned the hard way in Khan Younis may now help new forces operating in Gaza

Brooks at his Brooksian best today. Brother, you can't blame the progressives because conservatives are bummed that they can't blow shit up faster. Maybe just maybe the problem wasn't smothering progressivism but that you never actually believed anything to begin with.

It bums me out that there's nobody left on X to defend the most basic decency.

Twenty years ago there was at least a 6 month *debate* about whether regime change in Iraq would work. It's hard to believe we're considering it again. It's harder to believe we're barely talking about it.

I log into bsky and the conversation is about trans rights. It's like that's the fixed point conversation here. Tariffs? Bluesky(tariffs) = stock_market. Bluesky(stock_market) = trans_rights.

Why no admissions anxiety over here at Bluesky? :)

Correction. The political effects of housing are everywhere once you look. Every marginal dollar of income in Los Angeles goes to rent.
And the political effects of housing are pretty hard to see. Frankly I’m not sure there are any consistent electoral effects in a way that benefits one party or the other.

The median home to median income ratio in San Diego County was 8 to 1.
The reality is that cost burden is too high, but not undergoing extreme spikes. Most households are not cost-burdened in housing. We don’t build nearly enough and we definitely make it too hard to build in high-demand areas, and should reduce barriers to that.

I just wanna put myself on the record to say that the view that housing isn't that bad is absolutely nuts. You can't wave off big cities in California. They're important. And the opportunity costs are tremendous.
See, unlike a lot of self-professed YIMBYs and urbanists on the internet, I’ve been conducting research with housing data for well over a decade. And let me tell you: people lie about this data a lot! Including people on our side!

Media I want but can't have: @bennjordan.bsky.social interviewing @levels.io Levels would not turn it down because it is inconsistent with the hustle to turn down engagement. So Benn would spend an hr trying to penetrate the mind of someone who enthusiastically embraces digital sharecropping.

20 years ago I'd open up the interwebs on a very different platform and listen to @krhawkins.bsky.social and @hilzoy.bsky.social ... and now here I am. What changes and what does not.

So much to be said about all this, but.. when your enemies are *judges* and *civil servants*, to paraphrase Liz Phair, you know that the problem is you.

@fearofdark.bsky.social random question. i *deeply* admire exit plan and kinda wanted to study the score and arrangement? do/did you release modules (or any other source files) for it?

Okay, here I am on bluesky. Twitter has just become too right-wing. There's just nothing there holding up the left, particularly when you dig into replies.
