I forgot to transcribe stanza three onto my fair copy:

The person who’s always lived freely
Can’t know what it means to live so meanly—
Not the anger nor the doom most wretchéd
Of them to whom serfdom is attachéd.

But if the free man freedom weighed
In the heart’s scales, he would assay
Its value more than that of gold—
Aye, of all the gold that’s in the world!

A noble heart can have no ease,
Nor with aught else can it be pleas’d
If freedom fail: For to freely decide
Is above all else to be desired.

Text:
“A! Freedom is a Noble thing!” from The Brus by John Barbour (1375)
Ah! Freedom is a noble thing!
Freedom makes folks’ lives pleasing.
To humanity, freedom’s solace-giving. He lives at ease that’s freely living.

In the tiny community of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, near my hometown of Nashville, Arkansas, American Legion Post 332 is named in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen. Southwest Arkansas will never forget their service or their bravery.

If I got a defiant email from a guy named “Hannibal,” I think I’d either rëevaluate my life choices or go looking for either: a guy named “Scipio Africanus” or a woman named “Clarice.”

Such a great book! Congrats on the new acquisition! May the current generation and future generations learn to spot the Senator Windrips in their midst and learn from the examples of those who stood against them.

The American thing to do in this situation would be to run to your nearest harbor and start dumping tea in it.
