Michael Kaluta. Was there any greater cohort of artists than The Studio in the 1970s? For me, they shaped so much of the aesthetics of sword and sorcery art after them.

Angus McBride was a prolific artist, particularly for his Men-at-Arms series which ran from 1977 until his death in 2007 featuring warriors across time and cultures. He also did LOTR artwork for the 1984 Middle-Earth Role Playing game that is hard not to love.

Mike Mignola's take on Corum Jhaelen Irsei. Mignola and Mike Baron adapted Moorcock's iconic character for First Comics in 1987. The comic is stunning in both its efficiency and visual storytelling and serves as a beautiful example of Mignola's early work.

Wayne England's striking illustration graced the cover of Inferno! magazine issue no. 3. This short-lived Warhammer publication featured short stories and artwork. It also gave a lot of influential Black Library writers and artists their start. Peep my IG for an older post for more info on Inferno!

Art from Record of the Lodoss War manga. Masato Natsumoto. While the 90s OVA is more well known in the west, it was animated by the legendary Nobutero Yuuki. Here we see Natsumoto rendering in a style that is more subdued, soft, and sometimes ethereal.
