That does sound disappointing; my own FFXIV experience was pretty solitary until last year when I finally became active in a raid server. Let me know if you ever want to play with someone that's already a moot though!

The first game has more context for the whole town but the second one they end up coming up with original reasons for each venue lol

It's effectively SteamOS, it's open-source Linux like what you'd find on Steam Deck. You can add plenty of functionality to it and even install OBS, but the OS itself is much lighter so it's not costing you frames just by doing random nonsense in the background.
