In the UK detecting has become this weird sensationalised treasure hunt, where so much emphasis is put on monetary value. That isn't what makes the past interesting.

Denmark has a more robust process, and a better working relationship with the detectorists in general, but still isn't immune 4/

Now that I am retired, it is now such a joy to return to regular volunteering with a local group, now focussing on finds processing, as I have always at heart, considered myself as an archaeologist.

I tried to keep my hand in, volunteer digging during my children's school holidays, but my professional life took me into public service in health and education.
