Goldfinch, pencil and watercolor on cold-press paper. I'm very happy with this one.

I get it. You can pretend like you don't. But I do.

Universities have spent decades framing education as having no purpose other than providing a credential for employment. You're not here to do something wasteful like learn, you're here to increase your earning potential.

Why not use the magical cheating machine?

This technology is so clearly designed to profit off cheating and struggling students--its insidious. And yet universities keep announcing how they're allowing this company into its midst, to exploit and incapacitate our students even more
A photo from Jamie Keller Davis for the NYT: a color photo of a Chicago skyline showing three buildings photographed from street level. The one in the center has brown brick-like walls, and a very large poster advertising ChatGPT. The poster shows a conversation between a hypothetical student and ChatGPT: "Can you quiz me on the muscles of the leg?" "Can you build me a first time marathon training plan?" The text at the bottom of the poster reads: "ChatGPT Plus is free during finals.

That's probably been the reason. Work has been really really intense for several months. That hasn't really changed, but I am trying to give myself a little space for creative outlets.

I haven't felt that urge to put a paintbrush in my hand in a couple of months. Happy to report that changed recently.

Really pushing that Sapir Whorf hypothesis to the breaking point but that’s great sci fi. Also just Villeneuve doing his thing, and doing it excellently.

Correct me if I’m off base here but I think every single word of this, starting with “most experts” might be wrong?

There was a sense for a long time among centrist Dems that the very wealthy could be an important ally because their financial incentives could be leveraged for good. You could pressure them to do the right thing to protect their assets. Makes some sense.

Lmao they clearly do not give a shit.

Where is the outrage from industry about stuff like this?
The last year has convinced me completely that the wealthy in this country actually do not care at all about the businesses and industries they purportedly run. They understand that their wealth is secured. They have become truly pointless.

I thought the whole point was that AI was “democratizing” art and coding and all those pesky creative fields that used to take education and practice?

Pretty much I always agree there’s an overeagerness to make it about Biden somehow, but I think the point being made here is that trump is already polling as low as Biden at his absolute lowest point when he should be much much higher (according to historic trends)
