I used to work in the IT department of a hospital. One of my colleagues got a call. Apparently they were having issues with their research data. They'd been keeping several years worth on a single 3.5" floppy, with no backups. It failed, as they do. No magnets involved, but still.

I'd choose Valabar from @stevenbrust.bsky.social's Dragaera. Whatever he was making that night would be just perfect. :)

Sympathy my friend. Adulting truly can suck, but I'm happy you're still alive. :)

Your hair is amazing. My son dyes his hair on a semi regular basis, but he has sadly inherited my seemingly immune to dye hair. It doesn't help that his neurospicyness makes it difficult to have a professional do it.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes!

Sympathy on the veins. I used to work as a phlebotomist for a blood centre. In my experience most people who think they have hard to find veins just need a better phleb to do the draw. ;)

Which of course is their goal. Not that I think you don't know that, but I figured it was worth explicitly stating.

Because they've been paid to. Or because they support the felon. Or both.

*Update* Down to 460,000 without power and 120,000 without water. So things are moving in the right direction on both fronts.

The silver lining is that while it is supposed to be a powerful storm it is going to be short lived. The red wind warning where we are (Kildare) is from 6a until 11a on Friday. During that time we're expecting wind gusts well over 130kph, and sustained winds in the 70-80kph range.

Schools across the island are closed tomorrow. As are basically all public transportation and pretty much everything else, at least during the red wind warning times, and probably a couple of hours afterwards.
