Wimbish's article about TX ICE "for profit school," (STRIDE, known for reported fraudulent practices) really hits it home. I'm still pushing for folks to see the historical connection. Dehumanization advertised as "assimilation" and education

One of the things that really irks me is the way whiteness has been intentionally used, throughout US history, as a way to exclude others deemed non white.

One on my fav explainers for this is Cheryl L. Harris, "Whiteness as Property," (Harvard Law Review, 1993)

Further,
"Whiteness of a Different Color". Cf: Matthew Frye Jacobson (Harvard UP, 1999) Wilkinson identified it's first use in 1680. A.B. Wilkinson, "Blurring Lines of Race and Freedom," (Chapel Hill, 2020). Whiteness created as a social class from enslaved blacks, & after again the Civil War.

I agree. Imho it's a bit where the scientific method fails, in that it's not a tool for imagining what could be. Imagine living in the 15th C and not believing a common present day item, like "TV" could be "real." Anyway, always liked the parable of "blind men & elephant" for "truth" or "belief"

[Oleksandr Abakumov, a snr det. at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine] told [Applebaum] that he believes corruption, not transparency, weakens Ukraine. If Ukraine tolerates corruption, he said, “this is the way we lose, during the war, during negotiations, during rebuilding Ukraine.”

So true! Algorithmic generated content makes it more difficult to find unique or intriguing content. Sometimes it's help but I also prefer curated feeds.
