While this time of year offers a chance to unwind, it’s also a moment to complete tasks that set you up for the year ahead.

Recording CPD is mandatory under the Building Safety Act 2022.

Architects must complete and record CPD by 31 December 2025 to maintain registration in 2026.

This applies to all registered architects — including those not currently practising or those living overseas.

CPD isn’t limited to formal training. Reading, peer discussions, and insights from past projects can all count.

If the learning outcome improves your practice or competency, it can be recorded as CPD.

CPD is a legal requirement under the Building Safety Act 2022.

Architects must record their CPD by 31st December 2025. You can do this either through MyARB or RIBA.

Deferments are only available in exceptional circumstances.

If you think you may need to request one, please do so early through MyARB when you pay your retention fee. If a deferment isn’t granted, you must complete CPD for 2025.

We were pleased to have ARB’s Director of Policy and Communications, Rebecca Roberts-Hughes, participate in the London Build Expo last week as a guest speaker. Rebecca contributed to a panel discussion on the Architecture Stage titled ‘Addressing the Gender Pay Gap in UK Architecture’.

ARB is currently consulting on a proposed new route to registration for professionals with partial qualifications (specifically accredited Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications but no accredited Part 1) and improvements to existing routes for individuals returning to the Register.
