#HRCYED update and 2025 wrap-up!

Finished 10 books in October - December, all of which were applicable for HRCYED prompts.

No new prompts completed

3/25 prompts done 📚💙
I think the universe decided to “reward” those of us (me) who’ve been lamenting over climate change stealing our snowy winters.

One storm later and we went from considerably below the average to more than the season’s average of snowfall. So much shoveling.

There are WAY too many library books checked out on my card rn (the stack reaches my knee 😵‍💫), so while I would love to use today’s snow storm to catch up on wrestling or play SDV, I will be reading.

Think I can finish off the first Bobiverse book and maybe a manga and some poetry.

TIL that The Mountain Goats have a Song for Sasha Banks and this is the description.

“When Beat the Champ came out, a wrestler named Sasha Banks tweeted at me: ‘Where’s my song @mountain_goats?’”

Mercedes being a goats fan makes me love her even more.

Okay I updated my iphone this week and I am 100% convinced there’s something fucking wrong with the keyboard now.

I am making so many more typos than normal and they are simply not ones I typically make. I feel like I’m losing my fucking mind.

I’m still two weeks behind but holy crap are we finally getting the beginnings of a protoshita face turn (or at least exodus from the DCF)???
I am so here for this

Having to leave my house and go to work on the coldest day of the year is not particularly enjoyable. My hands are not looking forward to negative temperatures

First thought upon reading this was that I’d love to see a linguistics book/essay that examines grammatically gibberish memes.

Could include the likes of “man door hand hook car door” and “why is it called oven when you of in the hot food and of out hot eat the food”

Was distracted last night when I started the bottom ribbing on my sweater so this morning I’m having to fix ~40 stitches that were knit and purled in the wrong order.

Now that I’ve done half, I’m realizing it might’ve been quicker to frog the whole row. Oh well

I wish bluesky would allow us to mute only reposts from an account. There are some people I enjoy following but there is no reason for me to care about a person constantly reposting their own replies to their own posts.

I’m sorry but it’s just fucking annoying to see the same post over and over.

That one verse from Up the Wolves just feels more and more pertinent with each passing week.

My take is that Heated Rivalry baits viewers in with either the promise of A) hockey show or B) gay erotica and before they know it, they’re invested in this shockingly kind depiction of intricately nuanced characters and situations and all the messy humanity they come with.

Reading a book by an author of Armenian descent has me attempting to correct for the fact that, until now, I never looked into that aspect of my own heritage.

If I’m lucky (aka if my hand doesn’t get sore), I think I’ll finish the body of my Flax sweater today. Five more rows of stockinette to go >:]

It was exactly one of these fuckers.

You can tell I was overcompensating because I have never in my life earnestly wanted to express myself with pastels and yet I was walking around with this mf in my hand.

Listening to a 2016 retrospective as I knit and it just whacked me upside the head with a memory.

As an extraordinarily closeted (repressed) trans teen, I had one of those clunky rubber phone cases that was pastels and shaped like a bottle that said “boy’s tears” 💀

Looking up a male actor/wrestler/whoever only to find out he’s my age or younger than me despite looking like he’s got at least 5 years on me…

I wish testosterone would hurry up with making me look my age 😭

Whenever I crochet or knit for long stretches of time I end up straining my right wrist.

In other words, I spent too many hours knitting on Sunday, so today I am wearing a brace in hopes that I can continue work on this sweater tonight.

I have now read 2 books since I finished R.F. Kuang’s Babel. Both of these wildly different books have mentioned Babel (the tower, not the book).

I cannot recall any other book I’ve read in the last couple years that referenced it.

The urge to rewatch The Summer Hikaru Died is so strong right now but it is already so late. Alas.

I was gifted a yarn bowl for christmas. Went to use it today only to find that the interior of the swirl and cutouts to thread yarn through aren’t sanded.

Like I can’t pull yarn through it without it catching and pulling. Just ordered some sanding sticks to fix it

Bandido bullfighting with Beast Mortos is so good. That’s my kind of humor bro

Currently reading We are Legion (We are Bob) and I’m about a quarter of the way through it. I think I love the premise but am wary on the humor.

Was hoping this would scratch the absurd sci-fi humor niche that DCC made me enjoy but we’re not quite there yet. Hoping it turns up tho

TIL that Louise Erdrich is Ojibwe. I haven’t read any of her books, but I’ve worked closely with many patrons who have.

Looking at her work, I’m seeing it classified as Native American Renaissance literature, which is really heartening to see from such a popular author. I’ll have to give her a read
