Like, caveat, right now the interest rates are insane, but when we were finally able to buy in the middle of the pandemic our mortgage was roughly the same as our rent for the townhouse we were in but if/when we sell it we'll make mid/high six figures

In the short term it doesn't make sense; in the long term the equity you build means the "rent" (mortgage) you're paying goes into your pocket; you can't resell an apartment but you can resell a house
