In the original outline Tyrion and Jon were rivals for Arya's love, Catelyn gets killed by the Others, Robb dies in battle and Cersei didn't exist, so I do think GRRM would change stuff if he felt it fit the story better and not stick to an ending he might have come up with 30 years ago.

The only thing that it changes is their sexuality. Maybe that is what's really bothering you. Because the show makes it very clear that neither Moraine nor Siuan prioritise their relationship over their end goal of saving the world.

So Moiraine and Siuan can have sex with men in the books or Avi and Elayne with Rand but when it's with each other it's about "sex sells"? And I don't think Rand and Egwene have been intimate since S1 because she's still traumatised from her ordeal with the Seanchan.
