It's always a good day to share what active projects you're working on with @cgossagent.bsky.social at FinePrint Lit - and today is certainly no exception to that rule! 👀
A haphazard splash of pink acrylic paint against a black background. Text in foreground that says: “Two women of different eras, connected by the art that one creates and the other restores, reach across time to save one another from falling prey to a manor destined to sink into the sea, consumed by the sands of time.” Several vertical splashes of acrylic paint in various pink hues against a black background, working as bullet points. White lettering in front of each bullet point reads: memory scrambles, artist colony, family mystery, sand dunes, generational trauma, time slip 1899/1999, painter and restorer, the eggs are weird, mild body horror, thin places, hysteria, insomnia, tragedy, queerness.”

I just finished @danaiwrites.bsky.social's VILE LADY VILLAINS (out next year) and *chomps down on pillow and makes unintelligible noises*.

Thanks. That was all for today. Remember to drink water and prioritize your sleep and don't walk through doors with bloodied handles and broken keys.

Or do...

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

oooh congrats, this sounds great!

Being on street teams really is one of my guilty pleasures as a fellow author. I really, really hope that I'll never have to entirely stop that. Really, really, really. There's nothing better than getting to formally support amazing people with amazing brains alongside other amazing people! ✨

👀Fiction Highlight👀

ICYMI, the short story "Fish Upon A Star" by @arfrederiksen.bsky.social is now free to read!

The night sky is heavy with wishes—some we hope come true and some we'd rather forget—can the starfisher find yours?

Story:
buff.ly/6EZM4Bi

Issue:
buff.ly/sTRxEtv
Image shows Saleha Chowdhury's art of a dark figure over a red background, their organs made up of strange animals. Superimposed on the image is an excerpt from issue twenty of Haven Spec Magazine, published July 2025.

Author: A. R. Frederiksen.
Title: Fish Upon A Star.

Excerpt:

Before he died, my dad fished stars for a living. Sucked them straight out of the sky with a glorified mechanical fishing rod. Of all the possessions that I inherited, the starfisher was dad's truest legacy. I picked up where he left off, expanding on his star smuggling business as he would've wanted. All I had to do was find the people who'd wished on stars when they were children and offer them one of two options: pay me to keep their star in the sky or pay me to fish it free.

So, how do you put the word out there that you'd love to participate in more anthologies?

Because 👉 that's me 👈.

(and some news regarding that may already be happening next year, sooo maybe we could keep that ball rolling?)

Our intro thread has been going around again, but we've been busy since March... so, it's time for a new pinned thread! We are OTHERSIDE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit magazine of speculative fiction and poetry by 2SLGBTQIA+ writers! We open for submissions in January 2026.

The background is art in shades of pink, purple, and orange of a lone figure with a sword standing on floating ruins. The text reads: "OTHERSIDE: Queer. Fantastic. Coming 2026. www.othersidespec.com www.patreon/com/othersidespec"

Never underestimate the power of the action verb. I'll die on this hill, honestly.

Me, 2 days ago: "Okay, I clearly need to do some research on topic X for my book edits and character arc."

Me, today: "Okay, I've listened to 12 hours of podcasting about topic X, so now I just need to squeeze all of this into my story without making it into an essay! Easy, pfffft!"

.....🫠
arfrederiksen.bsky.social
It's such a common thing. Struggling with it myself at the moment, even 😂
arfrederiksen.bsky.social
I find the overall character agency discussion so interesting, honestly, because it's also so culturally coded as well. Not to mention tied to the relevant market. There's so much nuance there, for better or worse.
arfrederiksen.bsky.social
Agency in historical fiction can be so hard to write, truly. Characters have to work within such constraints. It doesn’t mean they can’t be active, but authors have to straddle that line of honoring the period-typical level of agency while also allowing for active choices within that level. Phew.

I'm really tired of the "everything should be sexy" / "nothing should be sexy" arguments about media. Some things should be sexy and other things should not be sexy and everyone needs to come to terms with the fact that not all things will please them, personally.
arfrederiksen.bsky.social
Sounds about right, honestly! 🫠
arfrederiksen.bsky.social
I get it, but I also don't get it 😂
arfrederiksen.bsky.social
Sometimes I find it funny how concerned we are with fictional characters doing things "for a reason" and "acting with motivation" when humans in reality do really dumb things all the time without knowing why. Anyway, welcome to my whatever talk, I guess.
