⬛️⬜️The UN recalls that "as a distinct people", Greenlanders are entitled to the full and free exercise of the right to self-determination, a core purpose of the UN and enshrined in Art. 1 of the ICCPR.

It is a right that Catalans also want to exercise; fully, freely and peacefully.

⬛️⬜️The right to advocate for independence through peaceful means is protected under intl law.
When a democracy uses anti-terror laws against political opposition, it does not defend the rule of law, it weakens it, and legitimises repression elsewhere.

⬛️⬜️The result?
Elected representatives, activists and journalists prosecuted under counter-terrorism or related charges.
This repression also goes beyond courtrooms:
• Exile
• Pre-trial detention
• Political exclusion
• Surveillance
• Chilling effects on civil society

⬛️⬜️Key problem: there’s no binding intl definition of terrorism. This legal vacuum lets states stretch it to cover protest, speech or art. When dissent is framed as a security threat, rights are suspended. @unpointl.bsky.social shows Spain's using this logic to criminalise Catalan movement.

⬛️⬜️Self-determination is not a crime.
Yet states are weaponising the law to silence peoples who demand democracy & political voice. Maintaining a façade of democracy while misusing courts & laws to repress peaceful political mvts, is LAWFARE.
And Catalonia is not an exception.
