in conclusion......... you should try thrifting
lastly.... clothes, furniture, decor, whatever—it all lasts a lot longer than we think, and we can make it last even longer. if you want to help “recycle” things, consider going thrifting every once in a while for what you need! not only are you helping reduce on waste, but you can also find some really cool and unique stuff for cheap. I’ve found lots of name-brand stuff (kate spade purses, calvin klein clothes, etc.) for just a couple of dollars at in-person sales. if you’re nervous, take a friend and have fun with it!

misconceptions + 3 ways to thrift
misconceptions “the clothes / items will be way too used and falling apart and dirty!” most secondhand clothing is gently used, with some looking brand new. always look over what you’re buying, but most of it will be decent or good quality. “thrifting? you mean just going to Goodwill?” there’s a lot more options for thrifting than just Goodwill, which you’ll see in a bit. “they won’t have anything I want, it’s all old people stuff” you never know until you try! a lot of people throw out clothes when they can’t fit in them anymore or don’t have space in their closets, so there’s plenty of trendy styles in stores now estate & garage & yard sales these are different things, all named after the locations the sales take place in. a yard & garage sale are almost always done by families trying to downsize or make some quick cash whereas an estate sale is done (typically) by a contracted 3rd party to sell multiple rooms full of furniture, clothes, decor, and more. an estate sale is usually done after the home owner has passed, but not always. garage & yard sale: the sellers own the items. some subdivisions & communities run sales together. typically will see sales thursday-saturday estate sale: the sellers are hired to sell on behalf of the family / home owner, unless the family decides to run it. these are typically listed online days in advance. typically will see sales thursday-sunday, sometimes running until monday. estatesales.net thrift stores thrift stores are stores where people have donated clothes, furniture, decor, and more and the store sells them off for cheaper than they would be new. some thrift stores are nationwide chains and others are local businesses. chain prices are typically higher (I’m glaring at you, Goodwill) and due to fast fashion sometimes you’re barely getting a discount from new. there are even “boutique” resellers like Plato’s Closet which take more notably branded clothing and sell them for much higher than other discount stores. mom & pop secondhand stores may not have great signage, so search around for “secondhand clothing near me”, “discount store near me” and such. secondhand reselling apps there’s a lot of secondhand reselling apps you can browse (or even sell your own used clothing / items) right on your phone. the sellers are all individuals selling items they have and set their own prices. be wary of any listings that don’t go into specifics or don’t have many images. always look for multiple different options if you have a particular item in mind, as multiple people might be selling it. apps: Ebay (anything and everything) Poshmark (mostly womens clothes) Depop (mostly cheaper, young adult clothes) Mercari (anything) Facebook Marketplace (anything) * I have not used all of these!

you can afford nicer things a quick primer on secondhand shopping because I got tired of telling people to go thrifting and them be shocked and them come back saying it was great advice

my 2025 end of year review is now complete.... phew, what a year. I released 5 games by myself and 4 different games I marketed, went to 1 convention, hosted 2 steam festivals, wrote 90k for visual novel scripts.....

as a reminder about all of my game jams and steam festivals....

games have been releasing for years before chatgpt became popular. you can still release games without using ai-generated assets. using ai-generated assets is a choice.
Crystal Game Works 1 minute ago "it proved impossible to finish the novel without using AI-generated art" This is not true. Any game can be completed without using AI-generated assets. Games have been released for months, for years before Stable Diffusion and ChatGPT and the like came into the public. Your game could have been completed without AI-generated assets. You could have (and still can): cut out the sections that didn't have finished artwork used premade assets from sites like itch.io (right here) that weren't AI-generated used placeholder assets Using AI-generated assets is a choice, and that was the choice you made. We don't accept games that use AI generation.
