Kia ora, world. I'm an Australian living in Aotearoa New Zealand, sharing whatever catches my eye.
Good onya, Roscoe. Not sure there’s much value in continuing this one. Go well.

Seems unlikely this is going to be a productive discussion. I’ll leave you to it. Go well.

This notion of platforming is so tedious. If someone has something interesting to say I’ll share it, not because I’m a cheer squad for a person but because it is interesting. Rather unedifying for people to lecture each other on who has the right to have a point of view heard.

Gosh, that turned very Nuremberg very quickly. Are you arguing there is one true opinion to which we must all adhere?

It’s interesting that you frame it as a moral argument. I can see how that would lead you to view only one side as worth listening to. But if you look at it as a debate about how NZ allocates status and opportunities, there’s a lot more nuance to it.

I don’t know of her work, but I do think she makes a fair observation that there is a battle for cultural power going on in NZ and language is just the surface-level manifestation. I don’t take sides in this battle but I do think there’s value in acknowledging it is going on.

When you put it like that I’m more inclined to read her work. No interest in engaging in the argument?
