Generative AI is theft. And not the cool Robin Hood one.

I don't disagree but the person I was replying to when I made that point is making an argument based on "ideals" rather than anything else. And based on ideals, the higher ups shouldn't be punished for failing at imaginary-er monopoly but for all the other failings of the company.

To be fair, market cap is a worthless metric. Whether it's in one direction (AI and Tesla being wildly overvalued) or the other. Ubisoft sucks, but it doesn't suck because it's valued lower by the metric of imaginary value.

Obi Wan Kenobi would say, it was true from a certain point of view.

Holy fuck that bush is majestic.

I've gotten into Stardew Valley for the first time after playing a good amount of Silksong and Hades 2. The fact that it's (relatively) chill and completely different was helpful.

Yeah Bilewater is probably the most memorable, but I do like Cogwork Core.

Cut Above is insanely good, and sword drops are fun with dash builds, like Supay. I think Sword drops are in a good place, it's plasma that's disappointing.

Beside the fact that Tech bros often still worship that book (or pretend to) the point is that she sold an impossible vision for capitalism.

If some get wealthy, why wouldn't they use it to gain power or repeal laws that prevents them to? Free Market inevitably leads to the end of the free market.

I never understood the dismissive use of "you care". Sure I do. I care about plenty of things, this included. You care too, if you didn't care you wouldn't have responded to me at all, not sure why you're treating this as a bad thing, this "I'm too cool to care" attitude is kinda childish.

Unless you're gonna argue "they're the same because they borrow this element", in which case I'd have to say: No shit they have elements in common with it, that's how inspiration works. You even state that a completely different game was inspired by it earlier but then also say they're all the same.
November 2, 2025 at 12:38 AM
"If all the games it inspired are the same"

They're not!? Dark Souls has inspired some of the most varied types of games a game could influence, not dissimilar to some of its own inspirations like Zelda. Seriously, games from so many genres including HK have taken from it, it's not even funny.
November 2, 2025 at 12:32 AM
Dark Souls changed the video game landscape in a way that gave people games they never would have been able to get otherwise. While I agree with the difficulty discussion, it's a drop in a bucket compared to the good it did.

Still piracy *is* good advice here overall.
October 29, 2025 at 9:13 PM
I still read some fanfic of it sometimes, but yeah no public discussion about/promotion of the series itself, only of Rowling's actions, and certainly no fueling money. I wish I could say that's why I didn't buy the game, but honestly I didn't even bother pirating it either.

In fact that's the majority of the playable characters, the "queer by default" assumption isn't *wrong*.

There's still a sizeable amount of characters that can't romance the same sex (including some M/M endings with M!Byleth that are somehow completely platonic even though you put a ring on it...)
October 28, 2025 at 10:11 AM
There are plenty of queer characters, they're just not all attracted to same-sex Byleth. Just because they're not protagonist-sexual doesn't mean they're not queer.

Petra is a great example of this. She can clearly be in love with Dorothea, but she's not into female Byleth for example.

Those were clear and widespread example of how your earlier point of "The idea that a person surviving a sacrifice lessens the sacrifice is gross." is incorrect as you can find examples where you may measure the detrimental effect of too many survived sacrifices in readers throughout an entire work.
October 23, 2025 at 10:48 PM
We have objective evidence of what I mentioned: A lot of One Piece readers don't feel an emotional impact at a sacrifice because of the many surviving that act earlier in the story. To the point that people didn't even realise certain characters were dead until it was too late to feel an impact.
October 23, 2025 at 10:46 PM
"The character has no idea they will survive"

Once again, that's not everything because the value of self sacrifice is less in its moral good (that's a mean) but ultimately in its narrative good. I didn't say that surviving a sacrifice is *always* bad so finding examples where it works is moot.
October 23, 2025 at 10:46 PM
It's not gross, it's a story. The emotional impact of a sacrifice in a story is not the same. IRL you'd be right, the action alone is as good, all the better if they survive. In a story if the character survive too often it simply lessens the impact of any such future action in that universe.
