Jesus CHRIST thank you for the context I genuinely had no idea. I liked his youtube stuff, I guess not anymore. I'm also heartbroken to see Spooky in there as well, I used to watch him in ye olden days. Sad stuff there.

The fact that they brought Bison back in season TWO after everything in SF5 makes my blood boil. And then I get called naive for being frustrated by this.

You can actually go even further back than that if you look at games that never made it out of their own countries. Japan had a pretty thriving indie scene even in the 80s and 90s on PC (Touhou anyone?), and even the Wonderswan had indie darlings like Dicing Knight

A lot of people in creative spaces view pragmatism as a sin. While not exactly the same and certainly not the the extent you're dealing with, I see similar sentiments in TTRPG spaces and it gets exhausting.
