I’ve been coming across this text on various platforms & all I can say is that I am in awe of what the body can withstand and still in a daze about the past week. ✨♥️

Big hugs to mommies everywhere.

Namibia now has a woman president, vice president, and National Assembly speaker. Eight out of 14 cabinet ministers are women. A first for the nation, & a huge win for equality and gender representation in politics. A moment that should inspire not only Namibia, but the entire continent and beyond.

My partner got me an e-reader for Christmas. My initial reaction was: “I don’t need this. I like my books in hand”.

It took a minute to warm up to it; but now: I absolutely love it. It also helps me read more! I’m already on my fourth book of the year.

He knows me better than I know myself 😅

Namibia is truly a desert country. Rains like this are so rare that people go watch rivers flow. Just saw a video from Usakos, where residents gathered to see the river running between the old location and the main road. A powerful reminder that drought is our reality, and rain, a miracle.

The Bill, which was introduced in August 2024, restricted protests and demonstrations. Opposition voices, including that of Katjimune, strongly objected, warning it threatened fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

🇳🇦 The oppressive Public Gatherings & Processions Bill, which sought to limit protests and demonstrations, has collapsed. MP from the official opposition PDM, Max Katjimune, on Wednesday confirmed the bill was abandoned and never passed. A win for fundamental rights and freedoms in Namibia!

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s compassionate response to the tragic murder of Imam Muhsin Hendricks is both commendable and necessary. It’s a poignant reminder of the leadership needed across Africa to protect and uplift the LGBTIQ+ community.

Oh, there’s more: “With the exception of PEPFAR Aid, which constitutes 17% of South Africa’s HIVAids programme, there is no other funding that is received by South Africa from the United States.” — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

South Africa’s land issue is complex. However, one thing is clear: US interference has never been about justice, only control!

More from Ramaphosa:

Trump inserting himself in South African politics is nothing new; Western leaders have long used ‘concern’ as a tool to involve themselves in other nation’s matters and to shape or influence policy.

But as we can see, Ramaphosa isn’t having it. I wonder what the implications might be…

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s response: “I don’t know what Donald Trump has to do with South African land because he’s never been here […] We are going to find solutions to our land question, so Donald Trump must leave us alone. […] So stay out of our issues.”

President Paul Kagame on X:

“If South Africa wants to contribute to peaceful solutions, that is well and good, but South Africa is in no position to take on the role of a peacemaker or mediator. And if South Africa prefers confrontation, Rwanda will deal with the matter in that context any day.”

An exchange of words between South African president Cyril Ramaphosa and Rwandan president Paul Kagame on X signals flaring tensions over the situation in DRC, with an apparent threat of ‘confrontation’ from the Rwandese leader. 👀

Namibia’s recently passed Marriage Act 2024 now explicitly prohibits same-sex marriages and the recognition of such unions conducted abroad. It defines marriage strictly as a union between “persons of the opposite sex”… a major setback in local efforts towards recognition for LGBTIQ+ relationships.
